Alice H. Phillips, 88, of Akron went home to be with the Lord, December 28, 2017. Born in Cleveland on August 11, 1929 to the late Oliver and Mabelle (Maltby) Henderson.

 

Her education includes, Case Western University, Michigan State University, University of Akron where she received a B.A and Kent State University where she received a M.E.D.. She enjoyed teaching at a variety of non conventional situations such as tutoring in LBJ's Great War on Poverty, The Akron Man power Center, Hartville Immigrant workers, freshman comp and technical, report writing at the University of Akron and C&T College.

 

She volunteered for more than 20 years at Summit Metro Parks in many capacities, especially Naturalist, working with school children.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Oliver Henderson and Dorothy Eilen Talbott; she leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Marvin E. Phillips who was her faithful caretaker in her later years; children, Stanley Curtiss Willis, Jane Willis, Theodore E. Phillips and Michael H. Phillips; grandchildren, Matthew Phillips, Kerry Nyhuis, Jason Phillips and Dylan Phillips; great grandchild, Silas Nyhuis.

 

A Memorial Service and a reception will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3300 Moorewood Rd, Akron, Ohio 44333 with Rev. Tim Temerson officiating. A reception will follow.
