Richard “Richie” Duane Higgins, 49, of Akron, went home to the Lord unexpectedly on May 22nd, 2017. Born on July 26, 1967, in Akron, to Kenneth and Beverly, Richie spent his life in Akron. He worked as an Abrasive Sandblaster Technician for Prime Polymers, American Metalizing, Akron Sandblasting, Carmichaels & Sons, and Newsome Work Metalizing on and off for almost 35 years.

Richie was an avid fisherman, earning the Fisherman of Ohio award numerous times for some of his greatest catches. He was very proud of this fact. He could always be found at one of his favorite fishing spots, especially the fishing hole down on Main Street, on any given day, regardless of the weather conditions. He loved to share his passion for his hobby, spending quality time with his mother and children.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth W. Higgins, brothers, Randy Ray, David Lee and James. He is survived by his mother, Beverly, brothers Donald (Jessica), Edward (Tameka), and Christopher (Robert), sisters Roberta (Edward), and Joann (Ronald), children Kenneth (Elizabeth), Ashley (Michelle), and Nicole (Cody), step-children Orry, Joan (Chad), Shawnasy (Kyle) and Crystal all of Akron, and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.

Private Services have taken place.

A Memorial Service honoring Richie’s life will take place on Friday, June 2, 2017, at Schlup-Pucak, located at 788 Kenmore Boulevard, Akron, 44314, calling hours from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. and service starting at 5:00 P.M. with Rev. Michael B. Smith officiating. Following the service, friends and family may gather for a Memorial Dinner at Immaculate Conception Church’s Waldeisen Hall, 2124 16th Street SW, Akron, 44314.
