We are sad to announce that Terry passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Throughout the day, Terry was visited by all his loved ones and got to express his gratitude towards each and every one of them.

He married the love of his life, Geri, over sixty one years ago and took pride in the family that they built. Everyone who knows him knows how good of a man he was. He was a man who wasn't afraid to tell or show the ones he cared about how much they meant to him. He was the light in every room he entered, making it impossible to not smile and approach him in loving arms.

Terry taught math in the Akron Public Schools for thirty two years, last working at Garfield High School. He enjoyed retirement and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. You could find him at all sporting events, rain or shine.

He is survived by his wife, Geri; his brother, Jim Thornton; his children, Kim (Jon) Goffee and Terry Thornton; his grandchildren, Vanessa (Dan) Nish, Courtney Goffee, Natalie (Brandon) Wilhelm, and T.J. Thornton; great grandchildren, Tucker, Everett and Dawson Nish, and Sage and Xander Wilhelm.

Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m.. at Hope United Methodist Church, 2650 Cory Ave, Akron, Ohio 44314 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. A Memorial service will be held from 5:30 p.m.- 6 p.m. at the Church with Pastore John Tsironis officiating. After the service, there will be a dinner provided for all family members of Terry.
