Jay W Friend

Jay W. Friend, 68, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 14, 1957 in Akron, Ohio.

Jay enjoyed spending time watching sports, especially the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Guardians and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He also had a love for riding his motorcycles and spending time with his family.

Preceded in death by his father and step-mother Fred (Murph) Friend and his mother and step-father Mary (Lacy) Petrey, his sister Pam (Bobby) Brown, his brothers Fred, Bill and Robert (Mary) Friend, and his nephew Little Bobby Brown.

Jay is survived by the love of his life and wife Shirley, his daughters Shawna (Brandon) Ramirez and Jayna (Mike) Byrd, his son Bryan (Jessica) Friend. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Baleigh, Jayce, Cruz, Amira, and Brynlee, his sisters Debra Dills and Mary “Itsy” Harger, his special little buddy Gunner and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jay was known for his sense of humor and the love for his fur babies Blu and Juno.

Calling hours will be Saturday July 19, 2025 from 2-5 at Schlup-Pucak & Wilson Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Blvd, Akron, Ohio 44314. Feel free to wear Browns or Guardians gear as Jay was a die hard fan! Friends and family will gather afterwards at The Bank Lounge 1078 Kenmore Blvd for food, covered dishes are welcome.
