Mary A. Martin, known lovingly by family as “Nana”, of Akron, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025, at the age of 62 after a short battle with lung cancer. Mary is preceded in death by her mother, Linda Gibson, her father, James Gibson, and by her son, Steven Haenftling.
Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and friend of many who enjoyed bowling, card games, and spending time outside gardening and lounging in her pool. She held membership with the J Club and Orioles social clubs, where she was often a patron, attending many club activities and gatherings. Mary was a passionate and enthusiastic viewer and supporter of the Cleveland Indians Baseball Team and known by those close to her to never miss a game.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Ronnie Martin; her sister, Pamela Gibson; brother, James Gibson (Cindy); sisters-in-law, Connie Unger (Brian), Dottie Early (Russ), lifelong close friend Marty McMullen (Rick); daughters, Melissa Gaston (Robert), Stephanie Haenftling; son, Matthew Haenftling, and many loving grandchildren, Ricky, Mickenzie, Madison, Mya, Robby, Myleigh and Zander; great-grandchild, Adalynn. Many very special and close cousins (Colbetzer crew), aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Kenmore Church of the Nazarene located at 2025 12th Street SW, Akron 44314. Friends and family wishing to attend are encouraged to wear Indians/Guardians attire to celebrate and honor Mary’s memory.
