Matthew D. Oplinger, 54, of Norton passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026. He was born November 7, 1971 in Barberton, Ohio to the late David Oplinger and Diana (nee Pfost) Chamberlain.
He loved to draw, ride his bicycle, fix things and enjoyed spending time with his family. Matthew’s legacy is lovingly carried on by his son, Kadin, who was his pride and joy. He is also survived by his stepmother, Connie Oplinger; his sister, Melanie Hornbeck (Steve); his brother, Andy Oplinger (Wendy); his nieces, Krystal (Ronnie) Ammons, Desiree (Mikey) Roberts, Alyssa Hornbeck, Tara (Noah) Winter, and Leah Oplinger; and his nephew, Andrew Hornbeck (Jordan). Matthew’s influence and love extended across generations, reaching his great nieces and nephews: Alexis, Ronnie III, Sesilee, Hudson, and Jerilynn, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Among his circle of friends, Jnean Fixler held a special place in Matthew’s life.
As much as Matthew treasured his connections with the living, he always carried with him the memory of those who passed before him: his father, David Oplinger; his mother, Diana Chamberlain and his brother, Mike Oplinger. Their memories remained an important and enduring part of his life.
Matthew’s life was marked by countless moments of generosity, humor, and sincere kindness. Whether spending time with family, supporting those he loved, or simply sharing a conversation, he brought light and warmth into the world. His presence will be missed, but his spirit will live on in the memories and lives of those who had the privilege to know him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Matthew’s honor on July 12, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the family home located at 5364 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd, Norton. Family, friends, and all who knew Matthew are invited to gather, share stories, and remember a man whose impact will not be forgotten.
Matthew D Oplinger touched many lives with his gentle heart and caring soul. As we remember him, we hold onto the love he gave so freely, the lessons he shared, and the legacy of kindness and family that continues through all those who survive him.
