Roger E. Metz Sr., lifelong resident of Barberton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable stories. He was born in Wood County, Parkersburg, West Virginia, and spent his life surrounded by those he loved most.

Roger was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Elizabeth and Richard Murphy, his brother Philip Metz, and his cherished granddaughter Brittany Metz.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Metz, with whom he shared a life full of joy, deep connection, and unwavering devotion. He is also survived by his sons, Roger Jr., Michael, and Mark Metz, and will forever be remembered as Papaw to: Brianna, Shelby, Madison, and Austyn Metz (Michael’s children), Cameron, Nicholas, Elivia, and Carter Metz (Mark’s children), Jaycelynn and Robert Jackson-Metz, the young children of Brittany Metz, whom Roger and Brenda have lovingly raised — and whom Brenda will continue to raise as her own. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Metz, his wife Brenda, and their family.

Papaw found his greatest joy in his grandchildren — cheering them on at sporting events, enjoying beach trips, telling captivating stories, and indulging in his favorite peanut butter chocolate brownies. He brought warmth, humor, and light to every gathering, and his presence will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, from 3–6 PM at Old 97 Café, 1503 Kenmore Blvd in Kenmore. All who knew and loved Roger are welcome to join in remembering his beautiful life.

In Lieu of flowers and in an old school way of honoring Roger - as Brenda continues to care for Jaycelynn and Robert at home, friends and loved ones are invited to share comfort through meals, kind notes, and thoughtful gestures.

Cremation has been entrusted to Schlup-Pucak & Wilson Funeral Home.
