Roy T VonKanel

Roy Theon VonKanel passed away on September 19, 2026, after a three and half year illness. Roy was born on November 20, 1955, to Paul Theon and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) VonKanel in Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Kenmore High School class of 1974. He went on to work on machine motors and retired in 2023 from Akron Industrial Motors.

Roy was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of Ohio Sportsman Club in Copley, Ohio. He built beautiful woodcrafts as a hobby and for gift giving. He had a strong work ethic and faith. He had an ornery streak and dry sense of humor with a twinkle in his eyes. Roy had a heart of gold.

His family meant the world to him, and he was our rock. He was always there when we needed him. He put his life on hold to care for his parents before their passing.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents, brother David, and special friend Meredith. He is survived by sisters Nancy Maurer of Big Creek, Kentucky and Sally (Mohamed) of Columbus, Ohio, Nieces Melissa Sloan of Akron, Iman Blata of Columbus, Fatima (Mohannad) Blata of Louisville, Ky; Nephews Abdullah (Dana) Blata and Azubair (Amna) of Columbus, Ohio, Albaraa Blata of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; 15 great nieces and nephews; and 3 great great nieces and nephews; special “daughter” DeKayla; and a host of cousins, family, and friends.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at the Schlup-Pucak & Wilson Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Blvd, Akron. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2026 at the Funeral Home with Pastor Dwyane Ray officiating. Burial to follow at Lakewood Cemetery.
