William R. Birch, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, in Akron, Ohio, at the age of 79. Born on February 12, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, William lived a life full of passion and dedication, leaving behind cherished memories for all who had the privilege to know him.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, William served his country with honor. His military service was a testament to his character, embodying the values of discipline and commitment that resonated throughout his life. After his service, he embraced a wide range of interests that showcased his creative spirit and curiosity about the world around him.

Photography held a special place in William's heart, as he could often be found with a camera in hand, capturing moments both significant and simple. His love for model airplanes and remote control planes reflected his adventurous nature and his knack for tinkering further underscored his impressive skills with electronics. There was something magical in his ability to repair and create, always engaged in a project that brought him joy.

William was known for his simple pleasures. He adored peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, enjoyed indulging in Oreos, and hardly ever went without a cold Pepsi at his side. His affection for his dog, whom he endearingly referred to as "little rat," highlighted the warmth and affection he extended to those around him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Anna; daughter, Christina Nihart; stepsons, David (Tracey) Martin and Marc (Gina) Martin; sister, Patsy Lethgo, and ten grandchildren: Anthony, Craig, Christopher, Jaret, Hayley, Kristyn, Addison, Brooke, Joshua, and Jacob. William also took delight in welcoming his three great-grandchildren, Julia, Wyatt, and Damian, each of whom brought immense joy to his life and numerous nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Viola (nee Baxter) Birch, and two half-brothers. His legacy will live on through the family and friends who cherished him deeply.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025, from 2- 4 p.m. at the Schlup-Pucak & Wilson Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Boulevard, Akron, OH, 44314. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Military honors will be rendered at 12:45 p.m. on Monday November 3, 2025, at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, located at 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH, 44273. FOR THOSE WISHING TO ATTEND PLEASE BE AT THE CEMETERY NO LATER THAN 12:30.
