William D. Vandever, 84, of Akron went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 21, 2026. He was born May 2, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Dallas and Gladys (nee Dalton) Vandever.
He was a graduate of Coventry High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired from Goodyear as a Lab Tech after thirty four years. He was a member of VFW #3383 Auxillary, American Legion Post #566, Orioles Nest #167 and the Ancient order of Hibernians. He enjoyed the fall hiking spree and received many shields for walking the Metro Parks trails.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kim Purtan; brother, James; sisters, Frieda Williamson and Margaret Rollins. He is survived by his sons, Kevin and Keith; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2026 at the Schlup-Pucak & Wilson Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Blvd, Akron. A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home with Pastor Dwayne Ray officiating.
