Betty B Badgley

Betty Beryl Bliss Badgley passed away peacefully in her home on January 21, 2021 at the age of 94.  Known to many as Aunt Betty, she was a lifelong resident of Kenmore, and was proud of her roots and her community. She was a wealth of historical information about the area, and could always be relied upon for stories about the neighborhood, her father driving the streetcars, Marietta, or doing her part to support the servicemen during WWII.

Born to Homer and Nettie Bliss in 1926, Betty attended Smith School and graduated from Kenmore High School.  In September 1946, she married the love of her life, Otho “Oats” Badgley, and had three children. Betty and Oats were married for nearly 59 years until his passing in 2005.

Betty always had a bright smile for everyone and could sit and tell you stories all day.  She loved shopping and yard sales, and could never pass up a bargain. Generous to a fault, she always supported the schools and the students in any way she could.  She was active in many clubs and organizations, and was a poll worker in every election for years. She loved her family and will be dearly missed.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Nettie Bliss, her husband Otho “Oats” Badgley, and her sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Philip Posavic (Medina).  Betty is survived by her three children, Lana (David) Starcher of Atwater, Larry Badgley of Coshocton, Daniel Badgley of Kenmore, and her granddaughter, Phyllis Badgley.  She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Bernice (Bliss) and Bill Fretwell of Kenmore. Her extended family also includes numerous related and "adopted" nieces and nephews, including Amy Heffernan of Akron.

Due to Covid-19, a small private service was attended by the immediate family at the Schlup-Pucak Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 27^th, 2021 with Rev. Ed Graves officiating.  Burial followed the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends and extended family are invited to join in a celebration and remembrance of Betty that will be held in July 2021 in honor of her 95^th birthday.
