Donald Johnson Obituary

Donald Ray Johnson, 69, went home to be with our Lord and Savior after a fierce fight against cancer on 10/29/2018. Donny was a second-generation outdoorsman and coon hunter that loved his Coon Hounds dearly. He was a longtime member of the Yale Coon Hunters Club in Portage County and was always willing to talk about dogs with anyone willing to listen.

Donny was very proud of his many nephews and nieces. Some followed their Uncle Donny’s light through the woods on many late-night hunting adventures from a very young age to adulthood. Donny made sure his heritage of hounds and hunting was passed down to his nephews much like his father did for him.

Donny was loved by his family and friends dearly. His warm smile and willingness to give you the shirt off his back left a permanent impression on all that knew him. He liked Hillbilly tomatoes, fried potatoes, a good cup of coffee, a good shooting .22 and a hound that could sing a song all night long. Donny served our country in the Army stationed in Korea in 1971 and 1972 where he met the love of his life, his wife Kim.

Donny was preceded in death by his wife, Kim Johnson; his parents, Jessie and Maudie Johnson; his brother, Bruce Johnson and his nephew, Jason Ray Johnson. He will be sadly missed by his brothers, Jim (Brenda), Larry (Sandra), Michael (Elaine), sisters: Virginia Wertz, Sandra (Tom) Petersen, Cleo Halamay; Barbara Johnson; many nieces, nephews, family and friends. We will always be looking for your light Donny. Keep your light shining when its dark so we can find our way home to. We’ll take good care of the dogs and send some all-night music your way. Give all our love to all that greeted you at the gate.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Schlup Pucak Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Blvd, Akron. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home with Rev.
