Frederick Welch III was born on Feb. 28, 1937 to Frederick Welch, Jr. and Florence Welch. Fred's sister Carol was five years his senior.
As a child, he was a fan of radio shows, particularly The Lone Ranger, Dick Tracy, and The Shadow; however, for his whole life, he was a major fan of baseball, particularly the Cleveland Indians. Fred was a life-long member of Concordia Lutheran Church.
He graduated from Buchtel High School, served in the National Guard, and married the love of his life, Margaret Wetzel, on Jan. 13, 1968. They had two children, Christopher and Keri.
Fred was a district manager for the Akron Beacon Journal for 46 years, retiring in 1999. Due to his job, Fred had memorized almost every street in the City of Akron. He continued to work part time in retirement; he was a driver for NAPA Auto, and he was an usher for the Akron Aeros baseball team. Fred was a kind and friendly man, and he was always able to make his friends and neighbors laugh.
A Graveside Service will be held 12 noon Thursday, December 8, 2022 in the Ivy Chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Pastor J.J Voelker officiating.
