Together Again
James Henry Long, 83, of Akron passed away on August 16, 2023. He was born April 15, 1940 in Akron, Ohio and a long-time resident of the area. He was a graduate of Hower Vocational School class of 1958 and married his High School sweetheart of sixty-one years, Nancy Regina (nee Helm) Long.
James was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1959-1963 and the US Reserves from 1963-1965 and was a machinist by trade where he retired from Goodyear. He enjoyed woodworking, crafts, flower gardening, motorcycles and fishing. He volunteered to help tutor students at Rimer elementary, was a Shrine Volunteer in Akron for many years. He loved football (especially the CINCINNATI BENGALS) and basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie (nee Gessman) Long; wife, Nancy and brother-in-law, Richard Miller. He is survived by his children, James B. (Denise), Sharon K. (Jeff) Lambert and Fred B. (Cathy); brother, Rick (Patricia) Long and sisters, Sandy (Mark) Watkins and Jeanne Miller; ten grandchildren, Megan, Nick, Kyra, Jeff, Shannon, Brian, Mathew, Michael, Madelynn and Brianna; two great grandchildren, Lyndon and Mari; many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2023 at the Schlup-Pucak & Wilson Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Blvd, Akron. Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the Funeral Home with Pastor David Haydu officiating. Burial to follow at Lakewood Cemetery.
