David McFetridge Greig was born December 28, 1923, at St Clairsville, Ohio.

 

He was happily raised on a farm with brother’s Bill, Sam, Jim, John, Tom and sister Bess. David passed February 9, 2016, surviving his brothers and sister and has now joined them, along with his beautiful daughter Sandra, in a heavenly eternal life.

 

As a young man, David left southern Ohio coal country for Niagara Falls, NY to seek his fortune and support the war effort. There he met the love of his life, Ruby. Before marrying, they decided to move to Akron, Ohio for employment closer to his family. Then at 20 years old, David and Ruby began a 72 year marriage that soon included two loving children, Paul David and Sandra Lucille.

 

David completed his GED and became a dedicated worker at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company serving his co-workers as a union steward. He served his community as a Cub Scout Pack leader and manager of the little league team, the Pirates. He also faithfully served his church, Park United Methodist, as a trustee and enjoyed bowling with the church team for many years.

 

David’s legacy is his large loving family which includes not only his immediate family, but grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews; many of whom were nurtured in his home by him and Ruby.

 

Remembering his 92 years will include his wife Ruby, son Paul (Barb), son-in-law Steve Yakabisin, and nephew Walter Matney (Dorothy). Five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren that will cherish his memory include Shannon DeDomenic (Mark), Gehrig, Jacob, and Caeden; Kristy Easterling (Dana), Zoe and Ella; Jamie Czetwertynski (Paul), Hannah, Kathryn, Claire, and Andrew; Erica Walulik (Matt) Saige and Cassidy; Amy Kimble (Tom) Brandon and Ava.

 

David’s family would also like to express our thanks to the staff at Pleasant View Rehabilitation and Nursing for their loving and professional care.

 

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2016 at Park United Methodist Church, 2308 24th Street SW, Akron, Ohio 44314, with Rev. Linda Somerville officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to service time. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
